Ryan performed on the national tours of Man of La Mancha starring Jack Jones and Ron Holgate, Fiddler on the Roof and Lyle on the 1st national of Lyle, Lyle Crocodile with TheatreworksUSA which played Off-Broadway at the Promenade Theatre and in D.C. at the Kennedy Center. He was also in the pre-Broadway company of I’m Not Rappaport starring Judd Hirsch and Ben Vereen and directed by Daniel Sullivan. Off Broadway credits include originating the role of Juan in the hit musical, Altar Boyz (Drama League Nomination-Distinguished Ensemble) at the NYMF and Dodger Stages, and theAtrainplays (Neighborhood Playhouse). Off-off Broadway credits: Movie Lover: Dancing Straight (TOSOS II, Flatiron Playhouse), The Ritz (Clarke Studio, Lincoln Center), Look, Ma, I’m Dancin’! (Musicals Tonight), Nils Torvald (Emerging Artists Theatre Company-INTAR), Kundalini (Muse of Fire-Kraine Theatre), as well as readings for the York Theatre, Stageplays Theatre Company, Genisius Guild, Tribeca P.A.C. and Eddie in Ancestral Voices with Mary Fogarty and Marvin Einhorn for TheatreSounds directed by Nicola Sheara. He has also performed in Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS benefits such as The Easter Bonnet Competition on Broadway and the AIDS Day concert of Children of Eden for the York Theatre at the Riverside Church. His regional credits include the Helen Hayes Award-winning productions of Side Show directed by Joe Calarco (Signature Theatre, VA) and Hair directed by Keith-Alan Baker and Anton Dudley (Studio Theatre, DC) as well as 1776 directed by David Bell and A Christmas Carol (Ford’s Theatre, DC), The Harvey Milk Show (Source Theatre, DC), Forever Plaid directed by Jerry Sipp (Temple Theatre, NC), The Mousetrap, The Secret Garden and The Pirates of Penzance (West End Theatre, VA), and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (Toby’s Theatre, MD) among others.

 

Ryan stars as Johnny in the short film “Stand By” which has been screened all over the U.S., Canada, Brazil and Europe and has won awards in Philadelphia and Los Angeles. He has also appeared in the films “Sentience,” “Searching for Bobby D,” “Washington Square,” “Forrest Gump” and twice on “SNL.”

 

Ryan was born in Fort Devens, Massachusetts and lived in Lawrence the first year of his life. Being a military brat, he lived everywhere from Arizona, to New Orleans, to Kansas, to Berlin, Germany and finally settled in the Washington D.C. area (Woodbridge, VA) which he calls home. Ryan has a degree in foreign language from George Mason University and studied for a brief time at the University of Salamanca in Spain. He lives in Harlem with his amazing friends/roommates: Tracie Thoms and Noel Velez.
